06 May Families Are Spending More Time Under One Roof
When we are installing roofing in Delray Beach, Boynton Beach – or anywhere in Palm Beach County, really – we don’t usually meet all the members of the family that will be living under the attractive and secure new roof we build. Before we get started, we will usually meet with one of the homeowners, sometimes both a husband and wife will be home to meet with us, but usually someone is off at work. And the kids are usually at school or off playing with their friends.
Of course, these days, things are different. Families are spending the majority of their time gathered together under one roof. Following the advice of health experts who advise us to stay home in order to stay safe and help curtail the spread of Covid-19.
Making the Most of the Time
These are difficult times, to say the least. The pandemic continues to impact the way we live our lives – and will probably keep on doing it for quite some time. But there’s that old saying, “When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.”
Since fretting and fussing aren’t going to accomplish anything, we might as well try to make the most of the time we have together. This could be an opportunity for you and your family to grow closer or tackle a new project together. There are so many great virtual offerings online that can be enjoyed – on your own or as a family – from museum tours to concerts and performances.
But nothing says you have to spend all day staring at screens. If you have small children, this might be a great opportunity to spend some quality time reading to them. As Reading Rockets says, “Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. … Even after children learn to read by themselves, it’s still important for you to read aloud together.”
And just think of all the stories about what we did during the pandemic we’ll be able to tell the grandkids years from now!
